Scale of Art – Acrylic Painting Course

£90.00

Scale in art – one of the most important elements when deciding on your composition. In this course we will focus on enlarging elements or a single subject. Taking inspiration from Georgia O’Keefe’s Flower Paintings and other artists. Including using a grid effectively, detail on a large scale, colour choices, and tackling a larger canvas without fear!

Head over to our Discovery Art Class shop front on Cademy to buy your course! This button will take you there!

  • Description

In this course learn to paint and draw on a larger scale. Botanicals are an endless source of fascination for artists, because of the sheer variety of form and colour to choose from!

Using beautiful botanicals and flower photos, taking influence from Georgia O’Keefe’s magnified flowers and other artists.

Learn to scale up using a grid, how to crop a canvas to create a semi abstract image. Practise form, bold colour, and how to use impressionist light and tone. Adding detail on a large scale, to enable you to tackle a larger canvas with confidence!

The online courses are designed to be used independently.

Course includes:-

Project 1 -Large scale drawing in charcoal. Practise drawing big, using tone and generally getting a feel for the larger scale.

Project 2 –  Drawing with light, an exercise in negative drawing, using the highlights in pastel/chalk on a dark ground.

Project 3 – Magnolia – this week we will be working in a more impressionist style, practising light with colour. Drawing big with a brush, setting a background, colour mixing.

Project 4  – Tulips –  This week we will crop and scale up using a grid, practising drawing forms.  Then use a tonal underpainting, adding strong colour in layers, and using an element of  complementaries.

Project 5  – The final painting! Using all the techniques learnt, create a composition of your choice, chose one of our beautiful flower photographs or even a real flower from the garden! Part 1 – drawing,  Part 2 – painting.
