After graduating, worked for a backdrop hire company where I learnt my craft as a backdrop painter, eventually working freelance in London. I painted and hired painted canvas backdrops to the photography, film, TV and event industries, including publishing houses such as Condé Nast (Vogue, Brides), the BBC, and many well known photographers.
I moved to Scotland in 2006, and after the birth of my son in 2007, worked as a freelance artist, designing and painting bespoke furniture for a luxury nursery company. I also worked on exclusive parties and events, painting anything required, from personalised backdrops to tipis,18’ diameter canvas bell tents and wedding cakes!
I worked and volunteered for Remake Scotland, a creative recycling project from 2012 – 2016, until relocating to Gloucestershire in February 2016. My role as Creative Leader was to devise and deliver workshops for a wide variety of groups within the community, promoting recycling and reuse in a positive, achievable, fun and creative way.
Over the years I have painted using many techniques and paints on a wide variety of media, in a range of styles and scale. Drawing on this expertise and my experience as Creative Leader, I found tutoring was a natural progression.
Since moving to Gloucestershire I have worked as an art tutor for a nationwide art class franchise, delivering a comprehensive 14 week programme to adult students. I set up Discovery Art Class as I realised there was a demand for shorter, more focused courses to fit with busy lifestyles, with an emphasis on explaining techniques and media. Since then I have successfully set up 4 classes in 2 different venues, with plans for workshops and evening classes to be added soon!
