If you’ve ever wanted to paint a portrait, but don’t know where to begin, this complete step by step video course will give you the techniques you need!

We start from the very beginning, studying the basic alignments and proportioning of a face and profile. The next step is sketching and painting the face elements (eyes, nose, mouth), use of colour and skin tones. The next stage is to apply the skills and techniques learnt to real figures, using professional headshot photographs. Practising sketching, scaling, setting a ground, underpainting, tonal values and shading, Then, painting your own portrait from start to finish!

The online courses are designed to be used independently. You will be asked to create a login, username and password at checkout. Project 1 ( 3 videos) –
Face Alignments – Drawing – beginning. Learn how to align and proportion a face and profile.

head studies.

Project 4 – (1 video) – First week of final portrait – choose a photograph or subject, scale up and align
using a grid, set a ground, paint in background.

Project 5 – (1 video) – Final week of portrait – all the painting stages, with extra tips and ideas to help
you finish you painting.
